Boatless rally - 14-16 November 2025 at the Osborne Hotel, Torquay
Moody Owners Association South West Branch Boatless Rally Away Weekend
The Osborne Hotel, Torquay, November Friday November 14th to Sunday 16th.
The Captain and Committee of the Moody Owners Association, South West Branch are delighted to announce that the 2025 Boatless Rally will be held at the Osborne Hotel in Torquay (https://www.osborne-torquay.co.uk/) between the 14th and 16th November 2025. This will be a very special event as it will also be the South Branch contribution to the MOA 40th Anniversary celebrations.
Many of you will have sailed past this hotel just past Thacher Rock in Torbay, where the Osborne Hotel is located. This is a 4* hotel with stunning views across the bay. We have managed to secure rooms at special rates for the nights of Friday 14th and Saturday 15th, leaving on Sunday morning. Breakfast is included and if you wish to extend your stay the hotel should be able to accommodate this. The hotel has a nice restaurant and bars and an extensive number of leisure facilities, which makes it the perfect place to relax and catch up with old friends. These include both indoor and outdoor heated swimming pools, tennis courts and stunning sea front walks.
Group booking rate for the rooms.
The rooms held are:
- Classic Inland Doubles – £134.70 per night
- Economy Inland Doubles – £114.70 per night
All prices include breakfast.
There is a limited number of rooms in each category available, so it is essential to book early. You may update to a higher category room if available. The closing date for the hotel booking is 20th October. Bookings must be made directly to the hotel on 01803 213311 and select option 1. You will need to provide card details for the booking; however, payment is not taken until 2 weeks before the event.
We ask the menu options are sent to sw.secretary@moodyowners.org once you have made a bank transfer to the SW Branch for the meal at:

Weekend Itinerary.
Friday 14th November.
Afternoon arrival and check in, there is an onsite carpark for hotel guests. For those with Plug-in EV cars, there are dedicated charging points at the hotel.
18:00 Join a meet and greet reception in the hotel bar and a chance to catch up.
Later: There are several restaurants in the hotel and also in town which is a 15-20 minute walk. The hotel restaurants are A La Carte, so if you wish to use them, and perhaps arrange a table with friends, please book at reception before the cocktail evening.
Saturday 15th November
After breakfast there is a chance to use the club facilities, including the indoor and outdoor swimming pools and for the more dedicated there is also a gym. The hotel is on Meadfoot beach and provides a great starting point to explore the seafront.
There are many attractions in the area, and it is planned that there will be available excursions to Kent Caverns https://www.kents-cavern.co.uk/ and Babbacombe Model Village and Gardens https://model-village.co.uk .
If there are sufficient numbers for Kents Caverns, we can arrange a group booking which gives us a small discount, but we need to book for a group. There is no online booking system for Babbacombe Model Village. As It is the winter season, opening times are 1000 – 1400, so we suggest that we aim for 1000-1030 for each. There is a café at Babbacombe Model Village.
The individual price for Kents Caverns is £16.95, but this is discounted for a group of 15.
The cost for Babbacombe Model Village and Garden is £20.50 for adults and £18.50 for Seniors.
Transport will be by car, but neither are far. Both venues have a café.
For those who would prefer to spend the day in Torquay, there is Torre Abby and the beaches and the town. There is a 1500 seat Palace Theatre, but the only show on the 15th November is The Manfred’s Rhythm and Blues, but there is no matinee and the only show begins at 1930 which conflicts with the rally dinner.
When you reply, please indicate which excursion you wish to attend, and how many of you.
18:00 Meet in the lounge for cocktails.
19:00 the club has secured the private function suite for our evening meal. The menu is below.
We hope to have a speaker to give short talk before the desert, but this has yet to be confirmed.
Menu
The menu is £50.00 per head. Table wine or soft drinks will be provided
Attire: Smart Casual Wear Requested
Given the special nature of the 40th Anniversary of the MOA, we ask that guests attend in smart casual attire. This will also make great photographs for the Compass magazine.

Eclipse 33 Gemini
Plymouth 13-15 August = cancelled
It has proved impossible to find a venue which could cater for our dinners on this rally, at a price which we felt was acceptable. Unfortunately, therefore, we have decided to cancel the rally this year.
Brixham/Torquay 5-7 September Cancelled
Events to come in 2025
You can now order a range of leisurewear such as rugby shirts, polos etc, in addition to waterproof crew bags with the SW logo and your boat name embroidered* on them. We had a direct link to an order page, however, because of low volume this has lapsed, hence to order you should call Kitz UK.
* Transfers rather than embroidery will be used on crew bags to preserve waterproof nature of bags
Please note that Kitz UK is an external company and apart from providing this leisure ware, has no relationship to the MOA.
If you have any queries, please contact the SW webmaster at sw.webmaster@moodyowners.org
